The Moon-Williamson House

Today

Description

Built in about 1750 and the oldest home in Pennsylvania remaining on its original site.  Constructed on the plan of early Swedish settlers, with the characteristic corner fireplace

Construction

Built of hewn, dovetailed logs with mortar chinking. A subsequent, second floor addition was built by Samuel Moon, a local cabinetmaker of good reputation. It and later siding have been removed

Uses

Initially a home.  In the 1880’s, Mary Williamson, a devout descendant of early settlers, used the structure as a refuge for poor city children.

Current Owner

Historic Fallsington, inc.

Landscaping

The two large sycamore trees are said to be ‘bride and groom trees’, planted in honor of the marriage of the earliest occupants.
