Volunteer Positions

Historic Fallsington, Inc. (HFI) has many opportunities available to those who wish to help us share the rich history and varied cultures found within the historic village and its environs.  We have positions suitable for those wanting to present the history to visitors and other jobs that provide the much-needed back-of-house work that also makes us successful in engaging the community.  Read the descriptions below and be sure to contact us for more information.

Jobs:

  • Collections

    • Basic Housekeeping of the historic structures;

    • Assist with maintaining accurate records for objects located within the historic buildings, including the Collections Storage Area.

  • Education*

    • Training provided to interested candidates, if necessary;

    • Assist with programs and/or workshops as a teacher or assistant.

  • Tour Guide*

    • Training provided to interested candidates who wish to help us share the compelling and varied history of HFI to visitors during general tours;

    • Tour guides may also be asked to assist during public programs, with advanced notice and training provided.

    • Period clothing strongly encouraged; assistance provided as to details, if needed.

  • Research

    • Conduct research related to subject matter appropriate to the history of the village of Fallsington;

    • Portions of this job may be performed off-site/remotely if the volunteer has access to a computer and the internet and/or research facility.

  • Library Assistant

    • Conduct a full inventory of the current books in the research library of HFI;

    • Develop a searchable database to be used by HFI staff and researchers;

    • Training provided.

  • Museum Shop*

    • Assist in the seasonal displays of the HFI Museum Shop;

    • Provide customer service during sales transactions for visitors.

  • Historic Trades Demonstrator*

    • Research an historic trade of interest with the intent of sharing your findings with other HFI staff;

    • Provide engaging presentations to visitors of an historic trade (or trades) appropriate to the varied history of HFI;

    • Period clothing strongly encouraged; assistance provided as to details, if needed.

  • Office Assistant

    • Assist with the daily operations of the HFI office- answer phones, provide customer service during sales transactions at the HFI Museum Shop, collate materials for scheduled mailings to membership;

    • Training provided.

  • Special Events

    • Assist with the behind-the-scenes portion of events and programs offered throughout the year.

    • Tasks may include, but not limited to: basic cleaning of historic buildings, helping with setup, contacting registered attendees with details, assisting with cleanup, etc.

Candidates for most positions (those noted with an asterisk (*) & over the age of 18 may come into direct contact with a minor as part of their work and therefore required to provide proof of the following clearances, dated within 60 months, before beginning their duties on-site, per the Child Protective Services Law (CPSL).  These checks are offered to volunteers throughout the Commonwealth at no charge.  If you do not have access to the internet, we can help you get these clearances at the HFI office or provide you with a printed copy to mail to the appropriate offices.
